  Interview with Dr. Ezra Riber.

Dr. Ezra B. Riber is the founder and Medical Director of Palmetto Pain Management, LLC, a comprehensive interventional Pain Management program located here in Columbia. He has been evaluating and treating patients with pain in South Carolina for more than 25 years.
Previously, Dr. Riber was the founder and Director of the Pain Management Center at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC, where he was also the director of the post-operative pain service. He was the first anesthesiologist to serve Chair of the Department of Surgery at McLeod before relocating his family to Columbia in 1999.

Dr. Riber completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Marshall University Affiliated Hospitals, and both his residency and fellowship in Anesthesiology and Pain at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He is Board Certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine with the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is currently president of the SC state society for ASIPP (American Society of Interventional pain Physicians)

A founding member of the Pain Society of the Carolinas, Dr. Riber is one of two board members representing South Carolina and also serves as chair of the Advocacy Committee. He is a long-time member of the International Spine Intervention Society and was selected to present a technique he developed to improve trials with spinal cord stimulation (Lilly's Loop) at a recent annual meetings. Dr. Riber is an assistant clinical professor in the department of medicine at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

 Dr. Riber's family has a strong military background. His father was a World War II veteran stationed in the Pacific, and his older brother, also an MD, was a full colonel in the Army reserve. Dr. Riber is honored to have many patients who have served in the military, many of whom are stationed locally at Fort Jackson and Shaw Air Force Base.

20 Minutes Made All The Difference

After 10 months of going from one specialist to another and feeling no better, a dear friend who had been a
patient of Dr. Riber for years suggested that we see him.  She spoke with him and with the severe pain my
husband was enduring he made a special arrangement to see us very quickly. He and his wonderful staff spent
about 20 minutes with us looking at all the blood work, MRI's etc. we had with us. Then he asked the question,
Itwhere are the X-Rays?" Well all the specialist and no one had ever ordered x-rays! He x-rayed my husband
immediately and announceq to us that he was in dire need of hip replacement, and was in a bone on bone
condition. We immediately made an appointment with an Orthoped~c Surgeon. When we told the Orthopedic
